Placr founders Ingvi Thor Gudmundsson and Viðar Svansson met in 2008 while working in the same office space (at different companies) in Reykjavik, Iceland. Working late hours in different office spaces, they began building the first version of Placr in fall 2008. Placr has since been revised and finally launched as a beta on the 16th of November 2010.
